Someone who was working on Viking Conquest decided now was a good time to rename a single vital file called header_operations.py, and change the word marshall to marshal for no good reason. You've done everything right, it's not your fault. If anyone else is struggling with the 'Can't open file' error using build_module.bat, running it as administrator changes the working directory to C:\Windows\System32\ due to the way Windows UAC works which is why it can't find the files.Īlso, if you're getting an error involving "party_set_marshall": Those are also listed in the order that I would recommend reading them as each will help set you up to conceptually understand the next a little better. Most modding tutorials somehow manage to miss covering these points in much detail, but Caba does a nice walk-through of the basics. This is where my modding began was reading this PDF all of the way through and it does a great job working as a starting point.ģ.) Caba'drin's Syntax Guide - Invaluable and will save you quite a bit of time trying to figure out the specifics of the syntax this module system uses. It walks you through what each of the files do, some of the things you can do in each and takes you through a tutorial for adding in a new quest. The top three that I would recommend are as follows:ġ.) Lumos' Introduction to Modding - This is fairly comprehensive on how to get the module system setup and ready to go for modding and still contains accurate information.Ģ.) Jik's Module System Guide - This really is the best guide on how the module system works. The module system hasn't really changed much in the last 4 years so most of the tutorials from that point on are still quite relevant. There is a lot of great tutorials out there for explaining how the module system works though they may seem outdated at first glance. See /u/Windyplains post here for a good list of places to start:
